Airbnb's November 20 Rules Leave Hosts Blind — Is PadSplit the Safer Play?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Starting November 20, Airbnb's new house rules take a lot out of the host's hands. Steve walks through the breakdown: no more rental agreements unless one of four exceptions applies (an HOA or building rule, an optional add-on like a golf cart, a stay of 28 nights or more, or a Luxe listing), no more asking guests to strip beds or take the trash out, no requiring a third-party app or Wi-Fi sign-in to get in, and no collecting phone numbers, emails, IDs or background checks. Steve says that last part just took a shot at StayFi. Myka's workaround: take Wi-Fi off the listing's amenities and offer it on request, and he ran his house rules and check-in instructions through Claude to make sure he's compliant before the deadline.
Episode 356! Then Myka and Stevie Stacks ask whether PadSplit is the safer play now that Airbnb hosts are going in blind. A Frisco house rented by the room — nine bedrooms bringing in $8,100 a month on a $4,000 payment — and the ethics of building a business around one kind of tenant. Steve's three six-bedroom PadSplits and which one has the most drama (not the one you'd guess), managing 27 personalities, why he lets rooms sit empty until the right person applies, and using the DISC test to pick roommates. Plus Floyd Mayweather's money problems, the Fair Park parking hustle at the State Fair of Texas, $25 turkey legs and a fable about a donkey, and Vivint at $70 a month vs Ring cameras.

SPEAKER_04Welcome to Live Let Thrive, a podcast about the Airbnb life, the share economy, and everything in between. Here are your hosts, Micah and Steve.
SPEAKER_01Hello, hello, hello.
SPEAKER_03And welcome back to another exciting episode of Live Let Brita. What's up, Micah Man?
SPEAKER_00I'm chilling, Stevie Stacks. How you doing, brother?
SPEAKER_03I'm doing good on this beautiful uh Thursday, which is actually my Friday, because I'm not going to work tomorrow. Can't beat that. The famous, your favorite short-term, midterm, long-term pas split podcast in the world coming at you from Fort Worth in Arlington, Texas.
SPEAKER_00Let's go, man. We got some exciting stuff to talk about, man. We political season.
SPEAKER_01Frisco stereotypes. Yeah, go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Oh, Frisco. Yeah. Yeah, we got into it with Jabron. You know, you know what's funny? It's um I like to, you know, some people are weird about hearing them their own voice and stuff, but I like to hear our podcast, right? Yeah, yeah. As soon as it comes out, I listen to it on you know on my drive to work. And then when I when I get there to work a little bit early, there's some stairs that go up to like this this area. It's like um I think it's like four flights that go up pretty good. And I do like 10 sets of those just to get my every morning. I'm starting doing that, right? So I've been doing that for a few weeks now. So I'll do 10 sets of those, but I have the podcast going and I'm just laughing my ass off, right? Oh shit, I forgot we said that. Uh but um I I texted you because it was something it was something you
Floyd Mayweather: $100M a Fight, Still Broke
SPEAKER_03said on the last podcast that I was thinking about. Let me see. Well, I texted you. Um oh the Floyd May Floyd Mayweather Floyd Mayweather thing, right? We were talking you brought up Floyd Mayweather, how he's always had been bad with money, so he had to keep fighting, right? Yeah, he made this makes over a hundred million a fight, and he still um has money problems. How does the hell if I had a hundred million in my bank, I'd be set. I don't know. I would how do you mess that up? Mindset, man.
SPEAKER_00Mindset, mindset.
SPEAKER_03If I had a hundred million in the bank, you know, it's an Airbnb kind of podcast.
Why You Need an End Goal
SPEAKER_00But I mean, well, speaking of Airbnb, we got some Airbnb stuff to talk about too. But yeah, uh, yeah, man, mindset, lifestyle creep, all that goes into it, man. Like, we're doing this for an in-goal, but you gotta, you know, you gotta have an in goal. I think that's the important part. I think we talked about that over dinner, me, you and Jabron about having an in goal, the importance of that, you know, just hustling just to hustle. Then when you're getting older, you got grandkids, you still hustling and wondering what the hell all the money goes. Like, bruh, gotta have that in go, man.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, or you'd be fighting till you're 80 years old. Um, anyways, that that was I remember I heard that on the cast and I and I looked it up. I just uh an article you know popped up today about Floyd Mayweather and money problems and people stealing from him, people he trusted, and whatever. I don't know. But he has I guess he has issues with that. Um, anyway, so yeah, I like listening to our podcast. I hope other people get in it uh enjoyment out of it as well. But we have a lot of topics to talk about, so this is let's dive in. What do you want to talk about first, Micah?
Airbnb's New Rules Start November 20
SPEAKER_00Well, what's the major the major things? The new Airbnb rule changes, bro. How you how you feeling about them?
SPEAKER_03All right, let's pull them up so we can go over them. Um someone did uh uh a breakdown for it, right? Like in you know, the gist of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, pull that up. That that was actually really good. That was a really good uh gist of it.
SPEAKER_03That was with um uh Jabron, right? Jabron, me and uh you'll y'all y'all guys will hear from Jabron one day. Um but but we we started talking about the Airbnb stuff, and he don't do Airbnb, does he? He just um he just does the flips, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, flips and rentals. Yeah, he just does flips and rentals. We're gonna get him on the cast, but uh not only did they he put a breakdown, but also they put a breakdown in the WhatsApp group. I like the one in the WhatsApp group, it was really good.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. Well have his right now.
SPEAKER_00Pull up Jabron's and we'll we'll go
Rental Agreements Banned: The 4 Exceptions
SPEAKER_00over them.
SPEAKER_03So the the first uh first that starts off the date that matters, November 20th. These new these if these things are gonna go into effect with Airbnb as far as your your house rules, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, the rental agreement. You can you generally can't ask an Airbnb guest to sign one anymore, a rental agreements. There are only four exceptions. A law or community association rule requires it, HOA or building security. It's for an optional uh optional amenity, like a golf cart rental, etc. It's uh number three, it's for a monthly stay of 28 nights or more, which is the main reason we get people to sign those, right? When they're staying for 28 nights or more, or it's a luxe listing, and I don't know how you define because most people call everybody calls their places Lux, even if they ain't so luxe, right?
No More Asking Guests to Do Chores
SPEAKER_03Um so that's the first thing, right? Uh and it goes it goes over that, but what uh the part what part did you want to dive into? Because the the the main the main thing people are pissed off about is you can't tell them you can't suggest them to do things like as far as uh tidying up a little bit anymore. Uh you could get banned for asking people to tidy up, you know what I'm saying, and do their damishes or whatever. Uh because we don't ask, you know, us, we don't ask them to strip the beds. No, I do do that.
SPEAKER_00I do do that.
SPEAKER_03Oh, do you? Okay. That's fine.
SPEAKER_00I tell them to strip the beds, but just strip them and put the stuff on the ground and we'll get them a cleanup.
SPEAKER_03Okay, cool. Okay, so that's not it's and that ain't too bad. Stripping the beds.
SPEAKER_00No, I don't ask, okay. I think why this came into place is people ask them to trip, strip the beds, take the trash out, wash the dishes. See, like, plus they're paying like a hundred dollar cleaning fee. That I get it's like, bro, come on now. I I ain't about to pick up behind you and I'm playing this cleaning fee. What's ain't they supposed to be cleaning the joint? But yeah, I think that's what it came
Midterm Guests and Trash Day
SPEAKER_00about.
SPEAKER_03Um take the trash to the curb or uh, you know, stuff like that. Well, that here's the thing with that. Now, if it's if they're there for two weeks and there's two, two to three or four trash days in that time span, we hope that they're taking, you know, we suggest, hey, tomorrow's trash day, could you do us a favor and put the trash out by the curb? Otherwise, we're gonna have two weeks of accumulated trash sitting in the garage or sitting in the front door wherever they stick the stuff, right? And and attracting attracting animals and stuff like that. So that's always been like um, you know, we don't we don't go overboard with it, but we just say, hey, trash day is tomorrow. Could you please put the trash out front? That's all we ask. And now I don't know if you can even ask that anymore, according to their rules.
SPEAKER_00According to their rules, you supposedly can't. Um, I need to go deeper into that one because that was my concern too. Because I you most of my people from Airbnb are midterm clientele, so I do ask them, hey, uh, can you make sure you take the trash out on Wednesday? Wednesday's the trash day, just take it to the curb Tuesday night. Um, on midterm, see, I think they need rules on that because midterm, they're staying there for a significant amount of time that needs to be changed. Um now one thing that was very interesting was
No Required Apps or Wi-Fi Logins: A Shot at StayFi?
SPEAKER_00they're basically they don't want direct bookings. They uh you know you've seen that they you're not allowed to use stay.
SPEAKER_03See, that's the one I was gonna ask you about because it said apps and wifi. You can't require a third-party app or registration to get in. So that's stay-fi. That's stay fi. They just killed Stay.
SPEAKER_00Not really.
Myka's Workaround: Take Wi-Fi Off the Listing
SPEAKER_00This is what I would do. I would take Wi-Fi off my listing. And I would tell them in the house rules, Wi-Fi is available. Wi-Fi may or may not be available upon request. So if they request the Wi-Fi and it's not it's not listed as an amenity, yeah, signed into the Wi-Fi using Stafi. That's what I'm doing.
SPEAKER_03Here's the thing with that. Now, would um would that maybe prevent them from finding you if they're if they're checking the boxes for amenities? Okay, I want Wi-Fi, I want this. It would be they won't you won't come up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, correct.
SPEAKER_03But that's not yeah, yeah, kinda.
SPEAKER_00Everybody assumes you have Wi-Fi. They don't even how many people you think checking that box? That's just an assumption.
SPEAKER_03That's a good question.
SPEAKER_00But swimming pools, hot tubs?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'll check those.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi. They're like, Yeah, everybody got that.
SPEAKER_03It always chips me out when I when I go and I'm gonna stay at Airbnb, right? In Mexico or wherever, and I'm checking the things, and I say, I'll I'll check something like that you assume everybody has, even here in the States, right? I'll uh say, Oh, okay, Central Air. And then you see all these ones disappear. You're like, people ain't got central air. I'll check Wi-Fi. And it's like you see, like things, I guess people just when they set up their listings, they didn't put all these things, right? And but but it's so crazy how you check just regular ones, you know, and then all these listings just start disappearing. You're like, holy crap.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, see, because back in the day, what was the thing? Make sure you can check every box, make sure you got all everything so you can check every box. Yeah, cool. But now, like, yeah, I'm I'm I think I'm gonna uh because this doesn't go into effect until November 20th. I'm thinking about just unchecking Wi-Fi, just like we don't have it. And if they come on site, but and then have it in the house rules. Oh, by the way, you there's certain things you can't say in the house rules either about
Use Claude to Check Your House Rules
SPEAKER_00smoking, vaping. Yeah, man. Um, one good thing, this is why I said I did. I did use Claude to go through my uh house rules and compared them with Airbnb's new rules and made sure we were compliant. That's a good way to make sure you're compliant, and then also have Claude check like your checkout instructions, check-in instructions, make sure you're still compliant. Because yeah, if you go ahead.
SPEAKER_03No, okay. No, you finished what were you saying?
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say, so that that's a good way to like see if you're compliant and it'll go through your listing for you.
No Phone Numbers, IDs or Background Checks
SPEAKER_03Okay. Now, because going back to guest data, it says you can't collect phone numbers, emails, home addresses, IDs, copies, background or credit checks, or biometric data. Okay, you can still um check ID in person uh at check-in. Okay, who's gonna do that? Uh, or disclose it in your listing. You can't just keep a copy. But so phone numbers, it I mean, it shows their phone number when they book with you. How are they gonna know you're not collecting their phone numbers?
SPEAKER_00They ain't gonna know. Uh well, let's say you do some email, some text marketing, that could come back on you. That could come back on you. Um, what I'm gonna be doing if I don't, let's say I don't do the Sta Fi thing, let's say I continue to use Stay, however I'm gonna use it in what capacity, I would still collect their phone number and put it into my Sta Fi dashboard so I can text them. I mean, yeah. Plus, most of my guests are midterm anyway. They are expecting, you know, to be in like Texas, all that good stuff. So I I don't know. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I want to get oh go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Oh you wanna get what? Go ahead.
SPEAKER_00I kinda wanna get the Stafi guy back on the podcast, like Arthur Coker, and just ask him, like, hey, what do you think about this?
SPEAKER_03I'm sure they ain't happy about it. I'm sure they ain't happy. I mean, that's the whole reason for that product is to collect the data. Yeah. That's the whole reason, man.
Is Airbnb Going After Direct Bookings?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh, you know what though? Um, I wonder if they did it because he got into direct booking. He still he started getting into like like the Wi-Fi finder for direct booking thing. So basically connects the whole mesh of Sta Fi people. Yeah, so I wonder if that was like, and that's powerful, bro.
SPEAKER_03Well they I mean, but they know that's why we're that's why we have Sta Fi is to collect that data so they can book outside of Airbnb.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but he has no no no. So like let's say I have a Sta Fi and you have a Sta Fi, right? He has a direct booking platform to where they can go, hey Micah doesn't have any vehicle. I can go to Steve's place through Sta Fi. Oh yeah, like I'm like, oh, yeah, if you go to Stafi, they have I'm wondering if that's like why Airbnb is like, oh no, we gotta get them the hell out of here. I don't know, but that's like yeah, like when I we need to get them on the cat, that's for sure. Yeah, we got to because I was looking, I'm like, oh, that was like when they said no guest wifi, all that. I was like, oh, that's that's that was a shot at Stafi right there. But yeah, I definitely want to get them back on to see how they're what they think about these new rules.
SPEAKER_03Man, people are gonna have to they're gonna start dumping why uh stay fi if they if they want to really abide by these, you know.
SPEAKER_00I wonder. I mean, you you definitely can get kicked off because somebody could say, I tried to vlog into the Wi-Fi, I had to give them my yeah, you can't.
SPEAKER_03Oh, especially if they're doing messages over the platform. You know, hey, I can't get on the Wi-Fi, what's going on? You know, if they start messaging you over the platform. Yeah, yeah, that would suck.
SPEAKER_00Woo! A lot of rule changes, man. Make sure y'all read them rules. Have fun.
SPEAKER_03But it's mostly to keep they want to keep people on the platform. That's what I'm seeing. They want to keep people on the platform, rebooking with Airbnb. And they want to um what's it called? Yeah, they want more control over this whole thing.
SPEAKER_00Um
Penalty-Free Cancellations for Rule Breakers
SPEAKER_00no, I'll do like one thing. You can, if a guest breaks your house rule, you can do a penalty-free cancellation. That I don't like. Well, actually, I don't like. So they can break your rules and you can say, well, I'll I'm gonna oh no, no, you can cancel it penalty-free, but I'm wondering, do you still get paid out?
SPEAKER_03They broke the rules. Oh, they broke the house rules? I would assume not. Interesting.
SPEAKER_00That's an interesting one.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, they they and the other thing is
Hotels, Vrbo and the Nick Saban Ads
SPEAKER_03I of course, who's their biggest competition? Is hotels. Still, their biggest competition is hotels, and so hotels don't tell you to do all this stuff, they don't tell you to make the you know, to pull the sheets off the bed and and sweep and mop and do do not that there's any dishes. Um sometimes some of them have uh little kitchenettes, but um, they don't tell you to do all that because you have maids going in if they want every day or every other day, however often you want to come through and clean. You know, so so they're competition, they look at the competition, but and you've seen the commercials, and you see the uh what's his name, the coach Alabama coach. Um telling them all the house rules. Um yeah, it was no uh no sitting on the sofa, no blah blah blah, no, no, uh, no fun. No, no, you see that grill over there, it's nice. Oh, it's nice. Yeah, you can't use it. Yeah, like this whole that's the whole and that's what VRBO has always been hitting about. I I don't know, maybe is VRBO always made it where you can't do all that stuff or what? VRB because those are VRBO, because those are VRBO commercials. Yeah, they are saying that if you book through Airbnb, you're gonna have to do all this stuff, you're gonna have to do the laundry, you're gonna have to wash the beds.
SPEAKER_00You know maybe hey, maybe we should be mad at VRBO, man. They they done put the fire under Airbnb's ass.
SPEAKER_01Now they're Airbnb coming back on us.
SPEAKER_00Because them commercials are everywhere. If you watch any college football, man, one of them commercials is about to come up on you, bro. Another thing you could do is probably make Sta Fi optional too. Like make it so they can sign in, but they don't have to give it their information. But if they do, they do. Another way to look at it. I wonder if they would do that, but oh man, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03So you're gonna still uh stay with Sta Fi or what?
SPEAKER_00Probably am. I mean I mean it's a sunk cost if you ain't working. Yeah, we gotta get them on the cast. We'll get him on the cast. We'll get him on the cast.
"Can I Just Say I'm in an HOA?"
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and one of the things was saying that um as far as getting people to sign these contracts, because that's always been a thing. People have having people sign these contracts where they agree to whatever, um, either house rules or um whatever it is. Um one of the things that says the question is as as I'm already getting it, is can I just say I'm an in an hoa? Make up the fact that you're an AHOA. And then this they put, no, you I I can't tell you to claim an HOA or building requirement you don't have. And Airbnb can ask for proof, don't risk your account or credibility on it. Now, automatically I'm thinking, and you mentioned it earlier, he goes, She didn't do all this research. Uh ChatGPT did all this, right? And ChatGPT is always gonna tell you the right thing to do, right? And so so hey, if you can if you come up with an HOA, I mean you can make an HOA on Chat GPT pretty easy.
SPEAKER_02Pretty easy to hell, yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it's send it to everybody if everybody asks for proof here. This is my HOA of it, the city right here. This this this this is where our HOA is, and here's all the proof, here's all the bylaws, boom, boom, boom. And um, and there you go. You can still have people signing these contracts with all their information.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Ooh, I'm looking at this, yeah. It's a lot of dang, it is a lot of stuff, man. It's a lot. It's like a 21-page, 24-page document of stuff that they changed. Damn, bro.
We're Corporate Rentals First
SPEAKER_03But as me and you have always preached, we're not Airbnb first, we're not short-term rentals first, we're corporate rentals first.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I get a lot of mine through Airbnb now.
SPEAKER_03That's the thing, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, see, that's when you start getting them through there. That's when the problem that kicks in.
SPEAKER_03And my assistant Manu collects all the data of the ones that are staying longer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then puts them in a database and you know, sends out the the MailChimps and all that stuff to hey, if you're gonna rebook with us, do it, do it directly.
Is PadSplit More Sustainable Now?
SPEAKER_00See, Pad Splits looking a little bit more sustainable now, right?
SPEAKER_03I don't know, man. It's uh like I said, I stopped at three because I was a little got a little nervous. People don't want to make a little fuss about it.
SPEAKER_00Sure, you don't want to get one of Frisco, man.
SPEAKER_03Frisco, you told me it makes good money. It makes good money. We talked about this earlier with Jabron. Where's Jabron from?
SPEAKER_01He's Pakistan. No, no, you gotta ask.
SPEAKER_03Okay. He he's Asian. He calls, but I think Pakistan. I think Pakistan Asian, you know, not Oriental Asian. We're already messing up. I don't know, whatever. You gotta ask him, brother. I think he told us, I think he told us Pakistani. Anyways, um, so we were talking about, and you brought it up, Frisco. There's a house in Frisco
The Frisco House Rented by the Room: 9 Bedrooms
SPEAKER_03that a lady rents out H2 H1B visas. Yeah, uh, that's that's her client. That's her uh clientele. Clientele, you know. She makes she turned the house into how many bedrooms?
SPEAKER_00Nine.
SPEAKER_03God dang. It's a lot of curry. And so so she turned. We joke with Jabon like this. He he said we could do it, so it's all good. Um, so anyways, it's my Friday. Um yeah, the the the the beard kind of foamed over. Um anyways. So so so we started talking about okay, this lady, the nine-bedroom house, and and you and you mentioned, you know, she's safe, then no one's gonna no one's gonna call the cops. You know, she's in a good area. Uh I said, well, Frisco's kind of high end for me. If I was what I'm thinking, you know, it's higher end than like middle of Arlington. This is ghetto. Yeah. Um, but you're like, no, they're not gonna call the cops. And I and I brought up this whole this whole thing that I've witnessed, it's called the caste system.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03People come from India. Uh if we have Indian listeners, they know what we're talking about. Is where you you you're born in the in a you know, this is how it goes. I don't know if it's still like that in India. I think it's it, I mean, there's evidence that it is, but if you're whatever um um demographic you're born into, poor, dirt poor, middle, upper middle, rich, you stay in that all your life. You can't move up, you can't move down, right? And it's really, really serious. And and they there's like a there's a lot of divisions between the the classes, you know. Yeah. And so and so that my whole point when you said that is what I thought about. It's like, well, if they're bringing that caste system mentality, and it depends on which H1B visa renters are renting those rooms because they can't afford to rent a big house or apartment, they might not be and they're living right next to another Indian, even if they're living next to another Indian family, they might not see favorable on this house full of a different class of Indian, you know. And they might, hey, what are they doing? And they might call the cops on them, especially if they're not on H1B visas, they're like you know, permanent residents or whatever, and these people the ones in that house they don't really care for too much. They they might be prone to call the cops.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I I and I said I I agree on the caste system thing because I was taping this text to y'all while I was actually talking to my friend that's Indian, and she was giving me her opinion on it. You know, she was like, I wouldn't live in Frisco. She gave me her reasons why. She was like, 'cause of what. You know what's being brought over, whatever. Um, because Frisco has a lot of if if you're ever like I'll be honest, if y'all are outside of the DFW, if y'all don't know much about DFW, if you google, you can Google Frisco and a lot of racist stuff will come up. For real, a lot of racist stuff will come up. But my whole thing was um
Are You Serving Your Tenants or Using Them?
SPEAKER_00Gerron made a good point. I understood his point, but I had to counter it, but I understood his point. He goes, if you're targeting a group of people like that and you're targeting them based upon their situation, meaning I'm taking advantage of a situation. Are you gonna be able to truly serve and cater to that group of people? And he said in his experience he hasn't seen that, which I understood and I agreed. But then that goes back to the ethics of real estate, right? Like, aren't we all basically building real estate businesses that are benefiting off of the situations of all people? Even if you have an A-class neighborhood, you're you're putting somebody in there who's higher class that can afford to stay there, but you're benefiting, like, okay, I can serve this higher class of people. Um, as far as the pad split thing goes, I've always said, and I keep repeating it, it's depending upon what type of clientele you're willing to serve. And if you sign to serve clientele, like I ain't gonna lie, the girl who's doing that, who's setting up those nine-bedroom, that's actually a genius idea if you think about it, because I'm like, well, damn, she's doing it in Frisco, and she's targeting the target, the target avatar who's going to Frisco, right? So I mean, I ain't mad at it. I see, I see both sides of it, but uh I think it's gonna be sustainable in that area. I don't think I I don't think unless the people in the outer parts of Frisco get pissed off, then I think that's when it'll become a problem. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah, that's a fair assessment.
SPEAKER_00Uh and you know what I mean by the outer parts.
SPEAKER_03You know the people who don't know. I don't know Frisco too well. I just thought all the rich people lived in Frisco. That was back in the day.
SPEAKER_00Oh nah, bro. Frisco changed. It's changing. I mean, I'm not it's not changed as in like you still have to have money in Frisco. The average home price in Frisco is still crazy. But like if you go to Frisco, bro, you're like it is like a lot of Indians up there. Like, I mean, we went like, but they have opportunities. Like me and Mahogany, we because we'll go up to Whirl Springs, hang out up there, and then if we don't want to drive back, we'll stay at the Hyatt Regency, and we'll just make a weekend out of it. Like the manager of the IHOP, he's like a 16-year-old kid.
SPEAKER_02You know, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But it's an opportunity for him, you know what I'm saying? I it was like six, he was like between 16 and 18. He was a kid, and he was running the whole operation himself. I was like, dang, you know, a little young Indian kid doing his thing. So it has changed a little bit, but you know, uh, people gonna complain.
SPEAKER_03No, no, as an agent, you're an agent now.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03So I I um I
The $1,000-Commission Agent Who Got Sued
SPEAKER_03was talking to my buddy about the whole uh Frisco, you know, thing, and and he mentioned there was like a big time agent that was pretty much only selling to Indian people. You might have heard, did you hear this story? Oh yeah, Indian dude only selling, only representing Indians and only putting Indians in these houses over there, and he was only taking a thousand bucks commission for selling, but and he was up putting in these ads, you know. So he so all of the Indians went to him and they want to buy or sell houses because he's only charging a thousand bucks, right? And he's putting these ads in this in these local papers and stuff like that, and online. It's all the letterings in in Indian and and the uh whatever the I sound dumb. Is it Hindi? Is it is it the the the writing that they use? It depends on where it's probably different, it depends on where in India. There's different languages and stuff, uh you know. But anyways, the I guess the main language or whatever that he was putting it in that and and he got sued. And they're saying, hey, you know, you're not letting anybody else buy these houses, or you know, because you just Indian people, and that's not, you know, because no, I put ads in well they all the ads are in a language that that that other people can't read, you know. And and he he's he made I mean he's selling hundreds and hundreds of houses, so he's making a lot of money, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because he but he's got one demographic, and so that's what that's what he got sued for. He's uh it's discrimination. You're not letting anybody else buy this house but another Indian family.
What Is Steering?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's I think that's called steering. Yeah, I think that's the legal definition of it is steering.
SPEAKER_03Steering.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, steering. Uh uh. Yeah. Oh, well, I guess.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it sounded like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But that that's truly the legal definition of it. I ain't gonna lie. You know me. I always like people that do intelligent stuff, and I gotta give a bravo for that. Cause that that was actually that was genius. If he sat there and did that, that is absolutely genius. If he was like, Look, I'm gonna put it in the language and have everybody come to me, charge a thousand commissions, sell a hundred houses, it's a hundred grand, bro. So yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, I guess it's unethical, but yeah, it is it is a legal term for that. But dang, man, he was making money like that, it was in the paper.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. Uh we can look it up. Okay, um, but yeah, it was a friend of the show told me too.
SPEAKER_00I could believe that. Because a friend of the show, I'll have her on. I'm not gonna say her name, I'll have her on. We will have her on. She did tell me that if you go to India, there are signs telling people to move to Frisco, Texas. I was like, damn. She said, Oh, yeah, it's serious. I'm like, that's I'm like maybe it's that same dude putting those signs over there.
SPEAKER_01Hey, hey.
SPEAKER_00But I mean, it's a thing though. We all know it's a thing. But yeah, it like there was a post on Dallas, Texas TV about India, and man, if you've seen the comments on that, it got racist in a matter of three comments, and it was like a 500 comment. I was like, dang. But yeah, it is start it. That is the stereotype around Frisco, and I don't think it's a stereotype, it's the truth, it's where a lot of Indians are.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, let me see. Okay, two Frisco businessmen. It names their names. Uh it's public. Yeah, it is public. Gopala Krishnan and Saktavel Gaunder. See, these names I'm not used to saying. Okay. We're hit with a massive civil court judgment of over $400 million in July 2026. A real estate infrastructure and fraud scheme. I wonder if it's the same thing. Um, wait a minute. This is a this is a different thing.
SPEAKER_00Um But I mean, if if you look at all the real estate fraud going on out here, though.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you're right. Civil Liable Frisco land. Okay, never mind. We'll we'll figure it out later. But that's that's a whole different thing. They were selling people with these all these houses on canals and all this stuff, but which really was didn't exist. And that's a whole different. Maybe it was selling to Indian people they get here. Where the where the hell's the canal? Little lake over there, a little pond. Oh man, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_00But I mean, it's a lot of real estate fraud going on out here, man. And it's uh it it gets like that in times like this because it's ugly out
AI Makes Every Listing Look Good Now
SPEAKER_00here.
SPEAKER_03You know how they used to sell you to go online and look for the ugliest houses with the ugliest pictures, and that's the ones you go after, right? Yeah, because they're not they don't know what they're doing. Uh freaking AI, man. Now every ghetto house looks badass. Straight up with the badass furniture in it and everything. Straight up. That's how you go to the street view and you go, man, that's a trap house.
SPEAKER_00Trap house. Straight up. That's how it is now. I mean, it it's crazy. It's crazy. But yeah, the the um the Frisco thing is definitely real, but I ain't gonna lie. When I when I when the lady kept this is like the third time she's told me about this, I'm like, that's
$8,100 a Month on a $4,000 Payment
SPEAKER_00a good idea, but I'm like, I don't know, but I'm like, because I'm not big on PasPlit, but those numbers right there, eighty one hundred dollars a month on a four thousand dollar house payment.
SPEAKER_03That's good money right there. Man, you can't get it. If it keeps going, if it keeps going, it don't look like it's
Steve's 3 PadSplits: Which House Has the Drama?
SPEAKER_03stopping anytime. Well, real quick on Pasplit, right? Okay, okay. I got three Pasplit houses, right? Yeah, and they're each six bedroom houses. Okay, I'm gonna ask you a question. One house is five girls and one guy, one brother. He's probably loving it there. Um another house is um I think it's uh four uh four guys and two girls, you know, and and mixed races. And uh the the third house is all six rooms is it's all guys, right? So which house of the three would you say has the most drama?
SPEAKER_00The one with the girls.
SPEAKER_03Nah. The all dude house has the most drama. And that tripped me out. That tripped me out because it's like one dude is kind of trying to be the alpha and take over the place. I don't know what uh you know, the call of the wild and shit like that.
SPEAKER_00What's his culture?
SPEAKER_03Uh Anglo. He's a he's a white dude.
SPEAKER_00Um I ain't saying nothing, I'm just saying. I just wanted to know what are the other roommates.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Hispanic, black, white, um Indian dude. Four, that's five. And another Hispanic? Something like that. Yeah. You just nodding your head.
SPEAKER_00I'm not saying nothing wrong, but I'm just like, it's see, and I'm gonna be real. That's another thing about PadSplit that's not talked about.
Managing 27 Personalities
SPEAKER_00You're having to manage a bunch of different personalities. Now, check this out. This is another thing I wanted to talk about, even with like the lady who's doing the nine bedrooms, right? Let's say you scale that to just your three, right? That's 27 people you're managing. You managing a whole hotel at that point. That's a lot. Imagine you scale to 10. That's 90 people. But I mean, if they're paying you $8,100 a month times 10, $81,000 a month. We can figure some stuff out. But $80,000 a month, we can figure it out. But you do have to take that into consideration. Because now, because how how have you managed the drama?
SPEAKER_03Um,
The Complainer in the All-Guys House
SPEAKER_03so far, you know, it's I've just been on a on a fact-finding mission.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03Asking the other um, because he mostly complains on this other this one dude. I don't know, they don't get along or whatever, talking about leaving toiletries in the bathroom, whatever. Some f you know, dumb shit. And so he's complaining on this guy, and then he's making it sound like this big drama. I was like, Oh crap, I need to check in. Is this guy okay? Is this and I asked all the other roommates, and they're like, nah, he's cool. He just, I guess, um, but somebody got mad over leaving some toiletries and they're making a big deal about it, but it's no big deal. He he's a cool dude. I was like, oh shit, so I guess maybe that guy's the problem. And he complained again. He like took a picture of a coffee mug in the sink. It's like like dumb shit, right? And so I'm like Karen up in there. Okay, this guy is the male Karen in the house complaining on people, right? And and um he's kind of started complaining day one over some stuff at the house, and then and then I was like, I just okay, whatever. And then he stopped complaining for a while until this one guy got there, and he just doesn't get along with that guy. And um, and so he's wanting he's wanting us to, he's it's kind of sounds like he wants us to kick this guy out, right? He says everybody else is chill, he just doesn't like this one guy, but everybody else in the house is cool with that guy.
SPEAKER_00Are they cool with the complainer?
SPEAKER_03No, they're cool with the they're cool with the guy he's complaining about.
SPEAKER_00I know, but are those same people cool with the complainer?
SPEAKER_03You know, they they they didn't it's like they want to rock the boat. This they kind of just said somebody overreacted on on something, you know. They didn't pretty much saying that guy overreacted, but they're not saying to get rid of him or nothing like that. Yeah, yeah. Like I said, most of these guys just go to stay in the rooms, whatever. One guy plays video games all day. Just big dude. He just he just all day long playing, he'll make a whole pizza, go to his room and make play video games all day. But he cleans on his day. He cleans on his day. Now, you
Do You Really Need House Meetings?
SPEAKER_03know, listening to these podcasts uh passport and stuff is you you gotta you gotta take more of uh you gotta go, you know, have have meetings with these people. He these guys are saying go to the house and have like a a meeting with all of them and just talk things out, expectations, and it makes sense, right? But who the hell got time for that? Especially if we have all this other real estate stuff going on. I ain't gonna go damn do a halfway house meeting. Um you know what I'm saying? I don't want to do a zoom meeting, I don't do nothing. Uh, I just want everybody to just chill and and you know get along. And I and I think I screen pretty good, but you just you can't really some things you can't screen for.
SPEAKER_00I can't I can't wait for Jabron to hear this episode. He's about to text right.
SPEAKER_01I told you he's about to be in his cortex.
SPEAKER_00But I mean it okay, that is something to consider with pad split, like your manager personalities, you might have to have a pad split meeting, you know what I mean? I don't know, like, but okay, this is my thing though.
PadSplit Reviews Follow Bad Roommates
SPEAKER_00Doesn't pad split allow them to vote people out?
SPEAKER_03They can leave reviews on people, okay. Okay, see, I'm learning all that stuff too. So, so here here's the problem, too, is like if people start dinging this one particular guy or girl with bad reviews, and then this gets to the point you want them out, then you try to like give them the notice to vacate and they have to find someplace or whatever within 14 days, right? Um, they the the the incoming the next house they're trying to get to is gonna see those reviews. They're gonna see this and they letting them in. And it happened to me before. I was stuck with that crazy guy at my very first path split.
SPEAKER_00Um, the dude running around the backyard of the table and his draws, it just weirdo.
SPEAKER_03Oh man, he's the one that busted out the glass in the front door. He was just a weirdo, man. He just just weird, and I couldn't get him. I mean, he wanted he was trying to transfer out, but he had already got deemed with all his bad reviews.
Bad Guests: Airbnb vs PadSplit
SPEAKER_00Okay, so let's kind of go back to the Airbnb thing, right? Not all guests are bad on Airbnb, but you'll get one every now and then.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00If you compare that to Pasplit, is it the same ratio or is it more?
SPEAKER_02Hmm. Hmm.
SPEAKER_03It's I that's a good question. Because I said it depends on how you screen. Okay. It depends on how you screen, because at this point um on Airbnb, we kind of we're not perfect at it, but we can screen pretty good. We know, you know, we to let we have questions that they ask him and all this stuff to qualify him to to book the place. But so, but I'll say the early days are pass split. I mean, there are so there are a lot of crazy people out there that can't get an apartment, right? And they make a lot of money or whatever. I don't know if it has something to do with it, because there's a lot of chill ones too, that in the same boat. But but you really I've I I mean I turned down most of the people that try to book. Just to try to get the good ones. So I screened the hell out of them, right? And and um you can't really do that as well on Airbnb. You can't like you you can't see their credit history and their criminal history, and you can't see all that stuff, right? You just gotta trust that Airbnb is gonna screen them, which they don't, right?
How Steve Screens PadSplit Members
SPEAKER_03Um, so so at least in in Pad Split, I can I can screen them some. I can look them up, I can see if they got arrested. I run them through that um uh real estate agent database, you know what I'm saying? Or that app that y'all use, that real estate agent app that y'all use. I run them through that because you know I have real estate agent friends, and so I'm very picky who I let in. I let a room sit empty for you know weeks until I find the perfect person in it, you know what I'm saying? Okay, and and um so so that being said, I get less crazy people now because I screen better. Um Airbnb is a crazy person gonna get through no matter what.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so it sounds to me like pad split, you really get less because you have the ability to screen more, right?
SPEAKER_03Okay, but it doesn't mean let's say you think you you let all the perfect people in, just like that house. I thought, oh, this is cool. It's all dudes, dudes just want to eat shit and sleep, right? That's all dudes want to do. Yeah, one other thing, but it's all dudes in that yeah, unless that you know, but anyway, anyways, um you just personalities though. That's
Use the DISC Test to Pick Roommates
SPEAKER_03that's that's it and and and you know it it it's funny because I just thought of it right now, and y'all you've spoken about it before. The you the disc personality test to what with the thing that yeah, bro. When you're gonna put people together at work in a workplace that they're gonna they're gonna fit, they're gonna work together well. You can't really do that.
SPEAKER_00I guess you I guess you kind of could be a bad one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, to see.
SPEAKER_00See, I bet you that the guy who's complaining the most, I bet you he has a D personality. That dominant personality. You probably want a bunch of C's in there to themselves, don't want to bother nobody. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03D's. Make them yeah, it's interesting. Make them do the disc test.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's what I think. Think about because I mean, I I haven't done it in so long. I think it's the C's, they're more passive to themselves. It's either the D's, it might be the I's whatever it is, but D's are more dominant. They're they're more D's are more like me and you in situations of like business and stuff, you know what I mean? They say never hire a D because they're gonna go start their own business. But like, yeah, maybe you should consider doing that because but to me though, it sounds like Path Split is less you have vacancy, but that vacancy is replaced because they're staying a long period of time, but you're screening for the white person, you have the tools to do it. Airbnb, especially with these new rule changes.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, so you can't check them out at all. No background check, you can't do nothing on these people. Airbnb.
SPEAKER_00That's what this like you have to consider that, right? So I mean that might be a one-up for pad split on that side.
SPEAKER_03It's it's I mean, I mean, you're really going blind with Pad Split, right? Because you don't know who the hell these people are that are booking your place.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you mean on Airbnb?
SPEAKER_03I'm sorry, yeah, Airbnb. You're really going blind on it, man.
Truvi, Superhog and Going in Blind
SPEAKER_03I mean, you can see if they have good reviews.
SPEAKER_00Well, back in the day, we could still use like Truvie and Superhog, and I still use those things. But now if you're saying you can't, you're definitely going blind. And Airbnb ain't gonna help you kick nobody out.
SPEAKER_03Hell no, I've been through that shit before. They're not gonna give they ain't gonna help you. They'll just cancel the the that booking and say, oh, you're on your own. That's it.
SPEAKER_00You stuck cleaning, getting this place clean for the next person. I understand. I mean, yeah, Airbnb. And shout out to Mark Simpson. He said Airbnb was eventually gonna be this, and they are. They are gotta get him back on the cast too.
The November 20 Airbnb Boycott
SPEAKER_03So we're so we're gonna everybody's gonna boycott Airbnb on November 20th. That's what's going around.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I seen somebody put a change.org in the thing. I was like, yeah, I don't know if that's gonna work, bro. So I mean you're you're you're you're listening on their platform and telling them what they can and can't do. That's I mean, it's just like they letting people into your house and you they can't you can't tell them what to do, but I mean that's the power of Airbnb, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. We'll see. My buddy um Tyrese Tyrese Maxie did pretty good.
SPEAKER_01I ain't watched him yet. I ain't watched him yet.
SPEAKER_03I just I just saw that LeBron's with the Sixers now, and they they just they whooped up on the Knicks, you know, their their whole ring party. They got ruined. Um, but I had mentioned it before Tyrese Maxie and his his wife or girlfriend, whatever, they were at the school, my daughter's school. He plays for the Sixers, so he's playing with LeBron. That's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Tyree straight out of Texas.
SPEAKER_03And he lives here.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03And then he plays in Philly. Even LeBron don't want to live in broke ass Philly, right?
SPEAKER_00Then he's helicoptering in.
SPEAKER_03He's living in New York.
SPEAKER_00Heck yeah, helicopter in, man.
SPEAKER_03Man, after Kobe, man, I wouldn't be getting in helicopters, man, either, bro.
SPEAKER_00Because Kobe did that for a long time, too. Like that was he was known for that. Like he would go from Orange County to LA. Like after the game, he hopping on a man. That's yeah, I wouldn't do it either.
SPEAKER_03But probably expensive as hell to do that, right? Did you
The State Fair of Texas
SPEAKER_03go to the state fair of Texas this year?
SPEAKER_00I did go.
SPEAKER_03We did too. It was it was I enjoyed myself. It was a shit ton of people there.
SPEAKER_00Uh what day did you go?
SPEAKER_03So we went that Monday on Columbus Day when all the kids were out of school. So it was packed, man.
SPEAKER_00I went that Monday.
SPEAKER_03Were you there?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we were there. It was packed, man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I took Malachi McKenzie. Yeah, dang, you were there?
SPEAKER_03We wouldn't have seen each other with so many people there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we were there. I was like, hold on, that's where we went. Yeah, we were there. Heck yeah. Yeah, it was when everybody was out of school. Yeah, that's not took Malachi McKenzie, man. We had a fun time up in there. It was fun. Packed as hell. You gotta go on Monday, though. You can't go on the weekend.
SPEAKER_03Weekend is that Monday especially was packed though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's that weekend was packed. I mean that that Monday was packed because everybody was out of school.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that was right after the gate, right after the Red River rivalry. Yeah, because they still had the stuff up. The uh the the the all the the the field was still painted orange and uh on Oklahoma colors. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was um it's an interesting, you know. I hadn't I never had taken my family there yet.
SPEAKER_00You had to pick it up?
SPEAKER_03I I went was like once when I was a kid, and I told you that was the first time I ever seen a pimp.
SPEAKER_01Uh oh I didn't a lot of it going on over there.
SPEAKER_03I didn't I didn't know at the time, I was a kid, right? Yeah, I just saw I just saw this brother, you know, dressed nice and walking with two girl with a girl in each arm, and then just pointing out stuff that they wanted to buy or look at or play games, and it's like he just he just cruising. I was like, dang, that guy has two girlfriends. And then later on, I was and I you know, I grew up, I was like, oh, that was a pimp. He brought his bottom B's up in there, he picked whatever you want, baby.
SPEAKER_01Hey, that's exactly how it goes in the state fair, man. Fair park, fair park, Texas. You already know what's going on over there.
SPEAKER_03It's right in the middle of the hood, man.
SPEAKER_01Oh, straight up. Yeah, you in the middle, you in the smack dab the heart of the hood over there.
The Fair Park Parking Hustle
SPEAKER_03Making that parking money straight up, man.
SPEAKER_00She was I oh man, speaking of that, I was thinking like, damn, I need to buy one of these little hood ass houses across the street. I only paid 15 bucks to park. He had like 20, 30 cars on that lot. I was like, dang, bro. He had his cousin out there with the gold grill. Hey man, I got you over here, man. Pull up in there. Hey, man, just cash at me 15. I'm like, my shit ain't gonna get broken too, is it? Nah, they was cool people, bro. They was cool, but like I noticed down that whole strip, man, all of them have houses. I don't even think they live in them during the during like the regular year. They just rent them out, park them. I was like, man, I was looking, man. I was funny you brought that up. I meant to talk about that on the cast. I was like, yo, that's a cool ass hustle because my dad's trying to do that because he owns a bunch of lots downtown Arkansas, downtown Little Rock, and you can park on them. He was like, Man, I could just open them up, let them park, like charge them. I'm like, man, that's a killing on the weekend, or like 4th of July all day. Even the uh for the Red River rivalry game, them doing that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, man. I was like, that's a good hustle.
SPEAKER_03There's money in parking. Man, my buddy Ewain, he grew up over there, right? In that area, and he um he said they would, yeah, they would sell parking all day long. He said they'll they'll fill up one spot and they'd move down with their flags, go to another spot, empty lot, come on, they will park you park, they're parking people wherever they could fit them, man. They're making all that cash money.
SPEAKER_00Man, for real. Because I was like, yo, this is a cold hustle, man. Because I was parking and I'm like, yo, this is a cold hustle. Because if you use the fairs parking, it's expensive as hell. But if you go across the street, man, they charging like three quarters the price 10 bucks, 15 bucks. I'm like, dang, they got like 20, 30 cars. Like, man, that ain't bad, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Well, the fair they kind of drop prices this year. I think okay, here's the thing: you it's a long ass drive uh uh drive of traffic trying to get into where you can park in the fair. Yeah, yeah. It's 25 bucks, but it takes you like a damn hour of trying to get into the fair. Whereas you could just pull over to one of those spots and just pay and just get in the fair right away, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's convenience, so that's convenience. You're at least selling convenience.
SPEAKER_03You're hoping your car don't get broken.
SPEAKER_00No, I see no I was thinking about that, but then like they're there the whole time just waving cars in. And
Airbnb It Part-Time, Park Cars at Fair Time
SPEAKER_00then what I was thinking was I'm like, dang, I wonder how much these houses are over here. Imagine if you had like a you Airbnb it. Well, I'll know who's gonna want to stay. The type of crowd you're gonna attract over there is gonna be a little different. But if you Airbnb it part-time and the fair comes in, shut it down, just rent out parking, man. That's that was I was showed man. I meant to bring that up on the podcast. I'm happy about that because I'm I was like, damn, I wonder how much these houses are, bro.
SPEAKER_03Get you one or two or three.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I the dude I was saw, he had like three houses, and he was like 15 on three lots. Man, you're making a killing.
SPEAKER_03Now you won't be blocked in, will you?
SPEAKER_00No, no, no. He they they set it up where you're not blocked in. You back out, it's just like a regular parking lot. They set up the spacers right in between. So one of them, the spot we pulled into, we just backed in from the street. So then as soon as it's time to go, we out. We ain't gotta back out or nothing.
SPEAKER_03Hmm.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a little hustle.
SPEAKER_03See, they got their people in city council, so they're not gonna they're not gonna try to ban that because they've been doing that forever. And you would think places like Arlington, they will never let that fly. They wouldn't let you use your own parking lot to to park people to that or or or in front of your house. Remember, during games, they go down the whole street. You can't park, nobody can park in the street during games.
SPEAKER_00Nah, because I mean the Jerry built all that extra park. Man, that parking for uh Jerry World's crazy because that park is all the way down Randall Mill.
SPEAKER_01Shoot.
SPEAKER_00And I think I don't be real, that's why I think that Airbnb band was like, okay, let's make it so you can do it in the entertainment district. We clean up so when people are walking up to the stadium, they ain't walking through the hood, which they still walking through the hood because they ain't cleaned all that up, you know. You know, you walk if you go to Cowboy Stadium and you park on the other side of Randall Mill, like across the street from the Cowboy park, yeah, it's the hood over there. Like, let's be real.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, if you got a cross collins, you in the hood.
SPEAKER_03No, man, parking is the way to go if you want to make money.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it and it's cheap, you know what I'm saying? You ain't gotta, it ain't no upkeep on no property. So, and it was just like what you were talking about earlier, like that's why the midterm rental game is so strong. Like, they keep making crap houses, like you said, and insurance game is gonna keep coming in. So
$25 Turkey Legs and the Donkey Fable
SPEAKER_00it is what it is.
SPEAKER_03So people complain about prices now, right? About the price, the cost of things, and everything. Yeah, how come so many minorities, Hispanics like spending money like $25 turkey legs? $14 slice of pizza. I thought they're complaining about complaining about the cost of things.
SPEAKER_00This is how it is when you look at it, man. People will pay for entertainment no matter what. No matter what, people will pay for entertainment. That's just what it is. I mean we can be in the worst of economy, people will pay for entertainment. But we'll complain about living expenses.
SPEAKER_03There's an old fable. I think it's like a Roman one. I think I I don't know if I told told you before, but there's this guy, he goes to an inn, you know, to go have some food and drink or whatever. And so he's there for a while. He's like, Alright, bartender, let's settle this tab. He goes, how much how many uh denaries for the food? It's like five denaris. Oh, okay. How many for the drinks I had? He goes, ten denaris. How many for the for the young girl? Uh 20 denaris. He's like, how many, how much, how many denaries for the oats for my donkey that's parked out front? He goes, three denaris. The guy's like, man, I swear that donkey's gonna be the end of me.
SPEAKER_01Straight up, man. Straight up, man. It's where you want to spend your money. There you go. It's where you want to spend it.
SPEAKER_00They know, straight up. Straight up. That but that's America today, bro. That's America today.
SPEAKER_03They'll complain about 50 bucks to fill up the tank of gas, but then they'll go right down the road. You know, will go right down the road to Chick-fil-A and spend 60 bucks. And that'll be the death of you.
SPEAKER_00And that will be the death of you. Straight up, man. That's how it is, bro. I love that. That's a great, that's a great one.
SPEAKER_03That's a great one. Damn, donkey.
SPEAKER_00No, donkey's gonna be the death of me. Wow.
SPEAKER_03That's one of my favorite fables, man.
SPEAKER_00And it's funny how the world is like that, especially now. You know, times are really tough right now. And and I think people, that discipline has to kick in. And ain't nobody willing to put kick that discipline in, like, hey, we're gonna pull back here. Tough time. Everybody wants what they want. And in America, you have the free dumb to be dumb.
The Texas Senate Race Mailers
SPEAKER_03So, okay. So the Dem's gonna win. Who? The Democrats are gonna win.
SPEAKER_00I don't know who's gonna win. Did you get your pamphlet in the mail?
SPEAKER_03I I you know, I don't think I I don't think I got that. I heard they were sending them out though.
SPEAKER_00The transgender transgender stuff. I got one, my co-worker got one.
SPEAKER_03But I think everybody, you know, most people that listen have have looked online and whatever, Facebook, Instagram, whatever. Know what we're talking about, and seen well, the the ones that live here in Texas. Uh so so it's it's Ken Paxton going up against Talo Rico and for the senator, right? For the Senate. Yeah. So Talla Rico's pro-trans stuff. And but uh Paxton, he's like a felon, right? Or he's like he's done some bad shit. Yeah, so he and he's the he's struggling. Usually Republicans win here easy, but he's struggling. So the only card they have to play is the trans stuff. So, anyways, all these pamphlets got sent out there, a lot of people's houses uh saying, hey, does your teenage, you know, your teenager need to talk to us about turning, you know, about their changing or turning trans or whatever. And but but that that that group, you know, didn't send them. It was the Republicans out there buying these pamphlets and sending them out to everybody. Ain't that some shit?
SPEAKER_01That's I heard I heard a political figure and and I ain't gonna say who it was. He put it on his Facebook. He was like, damn, man, I wonder how much money they spent on these pamphlets.
SPEAKER_00Because they went everywhere, bro. Like, I got home, like, and it's crazy because my son's chores to get the mail. He didn't read it, of course. He was just stuffed the mail in so he can go do what he got to do, get his chores done. So he brought me the mail, and I see this thing, I'm like, students for transgender rights, what is this? And I didn't open it. I didn't open it. I was talking to a friend the next day, and they were talking about the pamphlet, and he had opened it, and he took a picture. I was like, oh, that's what's in that. I was like, bro, what the then I was like shocked by the stuff that was in it, but supposedly they didn't send them out. So interesting stuff.
SPEAKER_03That's some dirty stuff right there because it's the Republicans sending it to people's houses. Ain't that some stuff? I don't know. I don't know. That's it. Politics is dirty, bro.
SPEAKER_01Gotta pay the cost to be the boss, man. Gotta pay the cost to be the boss.
SPEAKER_03That stuff might backfire, man. You know, do some deceitful, deceitful stuff like that. But hey, man, whoever wins wins. Um, you just gotta, you know, people get all online and passionate about it and stuff, but hey, what can you, you know, you gotta roll with it, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you you do your best, vote with what you want to vote for, and man, you go from there. It was wild though.
SPEAKER_03Because I always heard growing up that rich people donated to both sides of the aisle. They're they're 50% Republican, 50% Democrat. So whoever wins, they have some, you know, they get a say, right?
SPEAKER_00I can see that.
SPEAKER_03But I know Elon's all in on the right side though now. So he's probably sending up the pamphlets. But that's what I heard. But he's making flying cars now, which is cool.
SPEAKER_00Um I don't know, but I will say this. Um if you just vote how you want to vote. I'll say that. And then just take care of yourself and your family best you can. You know, educate yourself. That's what I'll say. I mean however you want to do your money and all that, you think one side's coming to save you, they ain't educate yourself on what's in that tax book. I'll say that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, that's the bigger thing, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and educate your kids, you know, just be there for your kids and you know. There's just a lot of stuff going on out here.
SPEAKER_03It's hard out there for a pimp.
SPEAKER_00Man. That's why our friend couldn't be on the cast, right?
Security Cameras: Vivint vs Ring
SPEAKER_03What um what cameras do you use at your houses? I know we're getting back on track here.
SPEAKER_00Uh, I don't. I use uh the Vivet cameras. I do not use I ain't gonna lie, them ring cameras have been upgraded so well, I kind of want to move switch over to ring. I'm like, dang, these cameras are damn good. But you have to charge them, don't you?
SPEAKER_03That's that's what I was trying to get at. That was the issue, man. Now now here's the thing. If you can if you have a functioning doorbell on a house or apartment, but apartments don't have doorbells, but if you have one on a functioning doorbell on a house, all you you can hook up the two, you can take out that little doorbell and you can hook the two wires to the back of the ring. You never gotta charge it. Okay so that's a good thing. But not all houses are wired with doorbells, so you have to put the ones where you have to change out the batteries, which causes you know a little bit of friction. You gotta get the cleaners to remember to bring the extra batteries and to change them out, and it's just and cleaners are trying to do as many houses as possible, so they don't always got time to do it, so it presents a problem. But you're all your vivid are hardwired in or what?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's hardwired. I don't have to charge.
SPEAKER_03How much do you pay a month on those?
SPEAKER_0070 bucks.
SPEAKER_03Per house? Oh wow, that's pretty high.
SPEAKER_00Ring doorbell, back camera, front camera, back camera, front camera. It's like a whole security system. It's a full thing.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's security too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's security too.
SPEAKER_03And they set it up for you.
SPEAKER_00You ain't gotta do nothing. They come out, set it up 70 bucks a month, but it's cameras, doorbells, door sensors, uh motion sensors, everything you can think of. It is pretty high, but I was and honestly, that's why I was looking at ring. I'm like, well, dang, but gotta charge them.
SPEAKER_03Unless you can
Ring's AI Camera Alerts
SPEAKER_03do that.
SPEAKER_00But at the same time, I I have cameras too, so I was but the ring, but the the AI and ring cameras is next level because my I manage my brother's house and he in my brother and my sister's house, bro. It tell you, hey, white FedEx van pulling up. I'll be like, damn. Like, they don't black man next door mowing the lawn.
SPEAKER_01Like, damn like damn, watching everything, man.
SPEAKER_03Profiling it's profiling like a slot camera in this movie. Straight up, man.
SPEAKER_00I was like, damn, but yeah, it's pretty good though. It's pretty good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so, but that's only okay, you pay like 10 bucks a month, I think, on ring for unlimited devices, but you gotta set them up yourself. And like you said, it could be you could have to use batteries if it's not wired for them, you know. But that's where I'm at right now. Cause I, you know, I set up houses pretty quickly back in the back in the day, and I set up the ones that had the batteries and that, and that kind of sucks, you know, because you have to end up changing those out. And hold on. Good night, baby. Love you. Um so that I was just gonna go over that with you. But Viven, I've seen them coming around house to house now, Viven. And they're we're and who's their target? They're good, they're targeting the houses with ring doorbells on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Straight up, straight up, and they they, you know, but yeah, I'm I'm if ring had I I'm gonna look back into ring. I might switch over. I might. I'm about to see. Yeah. But yeah, man, it's a lot of uh a lot of stuff going on, and you know, the pad split convo tonight, I think that was really good, you know, because you do have to know what you're managing and what you're looking after. So yeah, it's been good.
Where to Find Us
SPEAKER_03Been good, man. It's been a a good episode. I hope it's kind of good, kind of got something out of it. Uh kind of coherent. Uh we had we had fun. Um yeah, so I guess we can we could we could end it right there. I don't know how long we've been going. What an hour? Who knows?
SPEAKER_00Hour and a half, hour and twenty or so. But um, but uh no, but uh we're gonna get our friend on our our our our our our our third our third will guy on. We're gonna get him on. Um our guy Jabron to come and chop it up with us. He's uh he's always a good time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he has really good opinions, man. Shout out to Jabron.
SPEAKER_03Oh man, we had fun having some drinks with him the other day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, we gotta do that again, man. We gotta do that again.
SPEAKER_03And so he's technically Asian. So I uh we were talking about you, and you brought it up, we should go have drinks again. And then um, I was like, oh, that's that's the like a classic joke, right? A black guy, an Asian, and a Mexican guy entering a bar.
SPEAKER_00Man, those conversations right there, man. I love about our conversations, it's like real diverse, come from three different standpoints, cultures, and you see like the different, you know, but at the same time, I always say we're all very sensible, and I do think we made a good point. Business does make you see things from a different perspective, and you know, you have to cater to it. So yeah, good stuff. It was good stuff.
